Topic: Understanding the importance of digital citizenship

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will understand the importance of being a good digital citizen and will be able to demonstrate this through their actions.

Materials

• Laptop or tablet for each student
• Examples of good and bad online behavior (e.g. videos, articles, etc.)

Warm-up

• Show the students a video or article of a person behaving in a bad way online. Ask them to list the behaviors they see and why they think the person behaved this way.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of digital citizenship and explain that it refers to how we behave online.
• List the behaviors that the students observed in the warm-up activity and explain why it is important to behave in these ways online.
• Provide examples of how to behave responsibly and respectfully online using the class examples.

Guided Practice

• Have the students work in pairs to complete a task or activity related to digital citizenship, such as creating a poster or comic strip that teaches others how to behave online.
• As the students work, circulate to provide support and guidance as needed.

Independent Practice

• Have the students work individually or in groups to create their own poster or comic strip about digital citizenship.
• Encourage the students to be creative and use their own words and ideas, rather than simply copying what the teacher has done.

Closure

• Have the students share their posters or comic strips with the class.
• Ask the students to summarize what they have learned about digital citizenship in one or two sentences.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the class activity and take note of their participation and understanding of the concept of digital citizenship.
• Review the students' posters or comic strips and assess their understanding of the topic through the chosen medium.
