"Weaving Numbers Activity" Lesson Plan for Kindergarten Students

Topic: Weaving numbers in the context of counting and basic addition

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to weave numbers in the context of counting and basic addition.

Materials

• String or yarn
• Number cards (1-10)
• A large piece of paper or a whiteboard

Warm-up

• Review the concept of counting using number cards. Ask the students to count out a certain number and then have them demonstrate the counting process by showing the number cards one by one.
• Ask the students to demonstrate the process of adding two numbers together and show how to do it by using the number cards.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of weaving as a way of making a pattern or design.
• Show the students how to use a weaving loom to make a design by weaving the number cards.
• Demonstrate how to tie the ends of the yarn to secure the design and remove the finished weaving from the loom.

Guided Practice

• Show the students how to set up their own weaving looms and how to use the number cards to make a design.
• Provide assistance as needed while the students are practicing.

Independent Practice

• Have the students use their weaving looms to create a number pattern or design of their own.
• Encourage the students to be creative and think outside the box as they create their numbers patterns.

Closure

• Have the students share their number patterns or designs with the class.
• Review the different ways that the students used their weaving looms to create their number patterns.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the guided and independent practice activities to see if they are able to use the weaving loom to create a number pattern.
• Have the students take a quiz or have the teacher or a parent review their number pattern or design to see if they have created a correct and accurate pattern or design.
