On The Farm Lesson Plan for Kindergarten Students

Topic: On the Farm

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify animals on a farm and their sounds.
• Students will be able to make a bird feeder using a jar and BirdMilk (a mixture of seeds, nuts, and dried fruit).

Materials

• Jar
• BirdMilk
• Seeds, nuts, and dried fruit (optional)
• Scissors
• Glue
• Construction paper
• Pencils

Warm-Up

• Show the students a picture of a cow and ask them if they have ever seen a cow in real life.
• Ask the students to share what they remember about the cow they saw.
• Move on to a picture of a horse and do the same.
• End with a picture of a sheep and a pig.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the students to the concept of farm animals and their names.
• Show the students pictures of different farm animals and ask them to name them.
• Read a book about farm animals to the students and discuss the different animals in the story.

Guided Practice

• Have the students work in pairs and give each pair a piece of construction paper and a colored pencil.
• Have the students use the colored pencil to color a picture of a farm animal.
• Have the students write the name of the farm animal they colored on the construction paper.

Independent Practice

• Have the students work in small groups and create a farm mural using construction paper and colored pencils.
• Have the students share their farm murals with the class and explain what each person drew.

Closure

• Have the students make a bird feeder using a plastic bottle and string.
• Play some music and have the students dance to the music.
• Have the students repeat the commands that the teacher says.

Assessment

• Observe the students during art and music to see if they are following the commands given.
• Observe the students during closure to see if they are able to repeat the commands.
• Have the students write and illustrate their own story about a farm animal.
• Collect the students' bird feeders and observe them to see if they were able to make a bird feeder using a plastic bottle and string.
