Topic: Apples

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify different varieties of apples and describe their unique characteristics.

Materials

• Variety of apples (Red Delicious, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Fuji, etc.)
• Pen and paper for each student
• Handouts with information about apples (including pictures)

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever eaten an apple before.
• Ask them to name the different kinds of apples they have eaten.
• Ask them to describe the taste and texture of the apples they have eaten.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of apples and their various varieties.
• Show pictures of different types of apples and ask students to identify them.
• Discuss the different characteristics of apples, such as their color, shape, and taste.
• Explain how apples can be eaten in different ways, such as raw, cooked, or in apple pie.

Direct Instruction:

• Give each student a sheet with pictures of different types of apples and have them identify and describe each one.
• Have students work in pairs to draw a picture of their favorite apple and write a short description about it.
• As a class, discuss the drawings and descriptions and provide feedback and encouragement.

Independent Practice:

• Have students choose one type of apple to research.
• Using resources such as books, internet, and real apples, have students find out as much as they can about their chosen apple.
• Have students create a poster or presentation about their chosen apple, including information about its appearance, growth habits, uses, and any other interesting facts they have discovered.

Closure

• Have students share their posters or presentations with the class.
• Review what students have learned about apples during the unit.

Assessment:

• Observe students during the sorting and matching activities to assess their understanding of - vocabulary.
• Evaluate students' posters or presentations to assess their understanding of the -characteristics and benefits of apples.
