Topic: Counting 0-10

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to count and recognize numbers 1-10.

Materials

  • Numbers 1-10 cards
  • Worksheets with counting and recognition practice

Warm-up

  • Have students stand up and stretch their bodies. Ask them to count out loud from 1-10, encouraging them to use their voices and gestures to emphasize the numbers.

Direct Instruction

  • Pass out the worksheets with 0-10 numbers on them.
  • Have students look at the numbers and point to each one while counting out loud.
  • Have students practice writing the numbers 0-10 using the provided markers or crayons.

Guided Practice

  • Pass out different colored pieces of paper and have students create a picture of a thing that starts with each number (ex. a house for the number 1, a dog for the number 2, etc.).
  • Have students work with a partner and take turns showing their picture to the other person and counting out loud together.

Independent practice

  • Have students work on a project to create a book of numbers. They can illustrate each page and write the number and a word that starts with that number on the page.
  • Encourage students to be creative and think of different ways to show the number and the word (ex. using pictures, drawing a word, using numbers, etc.).

Closure

  • Have students share their completed projects with the class.
  • Review the numbers and words that were used on each page.

Assessment

  • Observe students during independent practice and provide feedback on their counting and use of numbers.
  • Collect and review the completed projects to assess understanding of counting and the use of numbers and words.
