Objectives & Outcomes

• students will be able to introduce themselves by naming their age and school
• students will be able to ask others how they are by using the phrase "How are you?"

Materials

• pictures of different ages (e.g. baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult)
• chart paper or whiteboard and markers
• copy of the script below

Warm-Up

• Show the students a picture of a baby and ask them how old they think the baby is.
• Ask the students if they have any younger siblings and how old they are.
• Do the same for a picture of a teenager and ask the students how old they think the teenager is.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of greetings and how to ask how someone is doing.
• Show the students a picture of a person and have them say "Hi, my name is _____ and I am _____ years old."
• Demonstrate how to say "How are you?" and have the students repeat after you.
• Practice saying "How are you?" to the class and have them respond with their name and age.

Guided Practice

• Divide the class into small groups and give each group a set of cards with pictures of people.
• Have the students work together to create their own stories by using the cards to create a complex sentence that includes the phrases "hello, -I am _____ years old."
• Have a class member demonstrate their story to the rest of the class.

Independent Practice

• Give each student a sheet of paper and have them create their own story using the cards.
