Kindergarten English Sound Lesson Plan Example (English)

Topic: English sounds

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify and produce the correct sounds in English.

Materials

• Picture cards with pictures of objects that make different sounds (e.g. cat, dog, bag, hat)
• Flashcards with the letters of the alphabet
• Pen and paper for each student

Warm-up

• Show the students the picture cards with the objects and have them say the name of the object and the sound that it makes.
• Ask the students if they can think of any other objects that make the same sound as the ones they mentioned.
• Write the names of the objects and the sounds they make on the board.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of English sound to the students.
• Tell the students that the sounds that words make are very important because they help us to understand what people are saying.
• Show the students the picture cards with the English sounds and have them repeat the sound after you.
• Have the students repeat the English sounds after you several times.

Guided Practice

• Show the students a new picture card and have them say the sound that the word makes.
• Have the students work with a partner to repeat the sound together.
• Encourage the students to help each other by pointing to the correct picture card and saying the sound together.

Independent Practice

• Have the students gather materials to create a sounds book.
• Have the students choose five different picture cards and cut out the words.
• Have the students paste the words onto a page and add a caption below each word with the sound that it makes.
• Have the students take turns reading the book and pointing to the correct word to say the sound.

Closure

• Review the different sounds that were learned during the lesson.
• Ask the students to demonstrate their ability to say the sounds by saying them out loud.
• Have the students share one favorite thing about the lesson.

Assessment:

• Observe the students during independent practice to assess their ability to read and write the English sound.
• Have the students take a quiz on the different English sound characters.
