Topic: Researching well being in the school community and how to deal with negative issues

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to research well being in the school community and identify negative issues in the community.

Materials

• Laptops or computers with internet access for each student
• Projector or large screen to display research findings

Warm-up

• Ask the students to share their experiences of well being in the school community.
• Encourage the students to share both positive and negative experiences.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of research on well being in the school community.
• Explain that well being includes many aspects, such as physical, mental, and social well being.
• Explain the purpose of the research, which is to gather information about well being in the school community and make recommendations for improvement.
• Outline the steps for conducting research, including identifying a topic, selecting sources, and organizing and presenting the information.

Direct Instruction

• Have students work in pairs to choose a topic for their research and identify sources for their research.
• Have students use the chosen sources to gather information about well being in the school community.
• Have students organize and present their information to the class.
• Help students to think critically about the information they gathered and how it can be used to make recommendations for improvement.

Independent Learning

• Have students choose one area of well being to focus on for a project that will make a positive contribution to the school community.
• Have students develop a plan for their project that includes an outline of the steps they will take, a timeline, and a budget estimate.
• Have students complete their project and present their findings to the class.

Closure

• Review the key concepts and skills that were covered in the lesson.
• Ask students to reflect on their own personal growth and what they have learned from the project.

Assessment:

• Assess students' research presentations for their understanding of the topic and their ability to present their findings.
• Evaluate students' use of the problem-solving skills in their group activities and the solutions they came up with.
