Topic:Solve linear equation

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to solve linear equation using the methods of substitution and elimination.

Materials

• Arrangement of equations to solve
• Pencils and paper for each student
• Calculator for each student

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever solved a linear equation before.
• Ask them to give an example of a linear equation and write it on the board.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of a cubic equation and explain that it is a type of non-linear equation that is more complex than a linear equation.
• Explain that the variables in a cubic equation can be arranged in different ways, and that there may be more than one solution.
• Show the students how to solve a cubic equation using the inverse matrix method. Show them how to identify the variables in the equation and how to arrange the variables in a way that makes it easier to solve the equation.
• Explain the importance of checking the solution to a cubic equation for correctness.

Guided Practice

• Provide the students with a few practice problems and have them work in pairs to solve them.
• Walk around the room and assist the students as needed.
• Continue with additional practice problems until the students have demonstrated proficiency in solving cubic equations using the inverse matrix method.
