Topic: History of Mohamed Ali age in Egypt

Objectives & Outcomes

• To understand the history of Mohamed Ali age in Egypt

Materials

• Textbook
• Notebook paper
• Pen or pencil
• Maps of Egypt (optional)

Warm-up

• Ask students if they know who Mohamed Ali is and what he did for Egypt.

Write their answers on the board.

• Explain that Mohamed Ali was an Egyptian leader who ruled Egypt from 1805 to 1849.

Direct Instruction

• Show a map of Egypt and point out its location.
• Ask students to name some of the Nile River's tributaries and explain their importance to Egypt.
• Tell students that Mohamed Ali came to power in 1805 after a series of conflicts and uprisings.
• Explain that Mohamed Ali was a military leader who used his army to gain control of Egypt.
• Tell students that Mohamed Ali was a reformer who introduced many changes to Egypt, including:
• Establishing a modern army and modernizing the country's infrastructure
• Strengthening ties with foreign powers, especially Great Britain
• Introducing new laws and policies to modernize Egypt
• Have students take out their note cards and write down the key ideas from the presentation.

Guided Practice:

• Divide the class into small groups and have each group research one of the following topics:
• Mohamed Ali's role in the modernizing Egypt
• The military reforms introduced by Mohamed Ali
• One of the foreign policies implemented by Mohamed Ali
• Have each group present their findings to the class.
• As a class, discuss the different ways in which Mohamed Ali modernized Egypt.

Independent Practice
