Topic: Processes of Researchers

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify the different steps in the research process and understand their roles and responsibilities at each step.

Materials

• Handout with the research process outlined
• Examples of research projects at different stages of the process

Warm-up

• Ask students to share their experiences with research projects they have done in the past. What processes did they go through to complete the project? What challenges did they face?
• Write down the processes they mention on the board and discuss as a class.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of the research process and explain that it is a set of steps that researchers follow when conducting a project.
• Use the handout to explain each step of the process:
• Ask questions to identify a researchable topic.
• Find and evaluate sources related to the topic.
• Organize and present information from sources in a clear and concise manner.
• Have students take notes on the information provided.

Guided Practice

• Divide the students into small groups and give each group a researchable topic.
• Have each group go through the steps of the research process and provide guidance as needed.
• Have each group present their findings to the class.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose a topic for research on their own and go through the research process independently.
• Encourage students to use resources such as books, online databases, and interviews to gather information and -conduct research.
• Have students create a presentation or report to share their findings with the class.

Closure

• Review the steps of the research process and the importance of conducting research before forming conclusions or making decisions.
• Encourage students to continue to practice the research process and use it in the future.
