Objectives & Outcomes

• By the end of this lesson, students will be able to identify and classify the different types of English complements, and understand their functions in a sentence.

Materials

• Classroom whiteboard and markers
• Examples of English sentences with complements (provided by the teacher or taken from a textbook or online resource)
• Handouts with a list of different types of complements (noun complements, verb complements, etc.)

Warm-up

• Ask students if they know what a complement is.
• Ask for examples of complements in English, and write them on the board.
• Have students work in pairs or small groups to identify the different types of complements (noun complements, verb complements, etc.).

Direct Instruction

• Review the types of complements with the class.
• Provide examples of each type of complement.
• Have students work in pairs or small groups to identify the different types of complements in the given sentences.

Guided Practice

• Provide examples of each type of complement on the board or on an overhead projector.
• Have students work in pairs or small groups to identify the different types of complements in the given sentences.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose one type of complement to research in more detail. They should identify the different types of words or phrases that can be used to express the type of complement they have chosen and explain how it is used in a sentence.

Closure

• Review the different types of English complements and have students give examples of each.-Ask students to share one new thing they learned about English complements during the lesson.
• Collect and grade their written work.
