Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to determine whether the ideas presented in a given piece of material (e.g. text, video, etc.) are relevant and truthful.

Materials

• Material to be analyzed (e.g. text, video, etc.)
• Index cards or sticky notes
• Pen or pencil

Warm-up

• Ask students to reflect on a time when they encountered a new idea or concept.
• Ask them to share their experiences and what they did to determine the relevance and truthfulness of the idea.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of Philippine literature and its importance in the Filipino culture and identity.
• Explain that one of the methods used to evaluate the truthfulness and relevance of an idea or concept is through the use of critical thinking skills.
• Introduce the three critical thinking skills (analyzing, evaluating, and reasoning) and give examples of how they can be used to evaluate the ideas presented in Philippine literature.

Guided Practice

• Divide the class into small groups and give each group a piece of Philippine literature to read and analyze.
• Have each group present their analysis to the class, explaining how the critical thinking skills were used to evaluate the truthfulness and relevance of the ideas presented in the material.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose a piece of Philippine literature that they have not read before and complete a critical analysis of it using the critical thinking skills they learned in class.
• Students can present their analysis to the class or submit it in writing.

Closure

• Review the critical thinking skills that were learned in class and have students share any insights they gained from doing a critical analysis of a piece of Philippine literature.

Assessment

• Evaluate students' presentations and written reports for their understanding of the critical thinking skills and their ability to apply them to analyzing a piece of Philippine literature.
