Topic: Virtual Networking

Objectives & Outcomes

• Understand the concept of virtual networking and the implications of a virtual network on the network.
• Be able to choose the right devices for a virtual network.

Materials

• Virtual networking software (e.g. VirtualBox, VMWare)
• Computer with at least 2 network interfaces (1 physical, 1 virtual)
• Network diagram template

Warm-up

• Ask the students to think of a time when they have had to share a network with other devices.
• Ask them to describe the process of sharing the network and the devices involved.
• Discuss the pros and cons of sharing a network with other devices.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of a virtual network and explain how it works.
• Show the students an example of a virtual network and how to create one using the network management tools.
• Discuss the benefits of using virtual networks, including isolation, flexibility, and scalability.
• Show the students how to choose the right devices for a virtual network, considering factors such as cost, performance, and compatibility.

Guided Practice

• Have the students work in pairs to create a virtual network using the network management tools.
