Career Portfolio Lesson Plan for 9th Grade Students

Topic: Establishing a Personal Online Career Portfolio

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to create a personal online career portfolio and begin uploading relevant artifacts.

Materials

• Computer with internet access for each student
• Examples of career portfolios (can be personal or professional) for students to explore and evaluate

Warm-up

• Begin the lesson by asking students what they know about careers and job searching. Encourage them to share their experiences and insights.
• Next, introduce the concept of an online portfolio as a tool for professionally showcasing one's skills and experiences. Explain that it can be used to apply for jobs or to seek out opportunities.

Direct Instruction

• Discuss the importance of having an online portfolio and how it can benefit career seekers.
• Introduce the concept of online portfolios and how they can be created and maintained using various tools (e.g. Google Drive, WordPress).
• Demonstrate how to create a basic online portfolio, including the addition of content and formatting.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to create their own online portfolios using the skills and tools introduced in the demonstration.
• Provide assistance and guidance as needed.

Independent Practice

• Have students continue working on their online portfolios, adding additional artifacts and refining their design and navigation.
