Topic: SIOP Agriculture

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to explain the concept of the energy pyramid and its implications for agriculture.

Materials

  • Diagram of the energy pyramid
  • Examples of foods from each level of the energy pyramid (e.g. grains from the base level, vegetables from the second level, etc.)
  • Construction paper, scissors, glue, and markers for independent practice project

Warm-up

  • Ask students to brainstorm a list of the different types of food they eat on a regular basis.
  • Write their responses on the board.
  • Ask students to divide the list into three categories: low-energy-dense foods, medium-energy-dense foods, and high-energy-dense foods.
  • Discuss the importance of energy density in agriculture and why it is important to eat a balanced diet.
