Topic: Uses of periodic table

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify practical uses for each element on the periodic table.

Materials

• Periodic table
• Pencils and paper for taking notes

Warm-up

• Ask students if they know what the periodic table is and what it is used for.Allow a few students to answer and discuss their responses.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of the periodic table and its uses.Explain that the periodic table is a table that shows the chemical elements arranged by their properties and properties of their elements.Show students a periodic table and discuss the different categories and groupings on the table.
• Explain that the periodic table is used to organize the elements and to help us understand their properties and how they interact with each other.It can also be used to predict the properties of elements that have not yet been discovered.

Guided Practice

• Provide students with a handout containing images of different elements and have them classify the elements into the appropriate group on the periodic table.
• Have students work in pairs to compare and contrast the properties of the different elements.

Independent Practice

• Have students create a poster that illustrates the uses of different elements. They can include illustrations of household products containing the elements, or they can create a fictional scenario showing how elements can be used in everyday life.

Closure

• Review the main points of the lesson, including the number of elements, their symbols, and the categories they fall into.
• Ask students to share one thing they learned about the periodic table today.

Assessment

• Observe students during the guided practice and independent practice activities to assess their understanding of the concept of the periodic table.
• Collect and grade the completed periodic tables for accuracy and completeness.
