Warm-up

  • Have learners stand in a straight line and toss the volleyball to one another, with the goal of maintaining complete control of the ball at all times.
  • Once learners have mastered this, have them stand in a straight line and toss the ball to one another, but this time with a partner standing on the other side of the line. The partner on the other side of the line must then catch the ball and throw it back to the original partner. The goal is to work on speed and accuracy of throws and catches.
  • For a more advanced variation, have learners stand in a straight line and toss the ball to one another, but this time the ball must go over the head of the next person in line. This forces learners to toss the ball high in the air in order to clear the head of the next person.
  • Once learners are comfortable with volleyball tosses, have them stand in a circle and toss the ball to one another. The goal is to maintain control of the ball at all times and not let it hit the ground.
