Topic: Creating and classifying Scatter Plots

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to create and classify Scatter Plots using various features of the plot, including the x- and y-axis, the scatter points, and the lines of best fit.

Materials

• Computer with internet access
• Scatter Plot template
• Data set
• Pen or pencil

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have heard of scatter plots before.
• Ask them to describe what a scatter plot is and how they might use it in their own lives.
• Have students brainstorm a list of possible data sets they might use for a scatter plot.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of a scatter plot and its uses.
• Define the x- and y-axes and explain their importance in creating a scatter plot.
• Show students how to create a scatter plot using the data sets they brainstormed.
• Demonstrate how to properly label the axes and how to identify any potential outliers or patterns in the data.
