Topic: 12 Verb Tenses

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify and use the 12 verb tenses correctly in writing.

Materials

• Chart with the 12 verb tenses written on it
• Examples of sentences using each verb tense

Warm-up

• Ask the students to think of a time in the past, present, or future.
• Have the students share their thoughts with a partner.
• Ask the students if there are any different ways to describe time, such as past, present, or future.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of verb tenses and the 12 different options available.
• Provide examples of each tense, using the present tense as a starting point.
• Have the students take notes on the characteristics of each tense, such as when it is used and its formation rules.

Guided Practice

• Using the handouts or class notes, have the students work in pairs to identify and form the tenses of different verbs, such as "to run" and "to have."
