Topic: Introduction to Entrepreneurship

Objectives & Outcomes

• Understand the concept of entrepreneurship and its importance in the business world.
• Research and present on a successful entrepreneur and their journey.

Materials

• Computer with internet access
• Projector or large screen
• Presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint, Keynote)
• Handouts with information on successful entrepreneurs

Warm-up

• Have students spend a few minutes writing down their definition of entrepreneurship.
• Then, have a few volunteers share their definitions with the class.
• Lead a discussion on the importance of entrepreneurship in the business world.

Direct Instruction

• Define entrepreneurship and explain its importance in the business world.
• Discuss the traits and characteristics of successful entrepreneurs.
• Distribute the handouts with information on successful entrepreneurs and have a brief discussion on each entrepreneur.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in small groups and research one of the listed successful entrepreneurs.
• Have each group present their learned information to the class and discuss any insights they gained.
• Allow time for questions and discussion.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose a different successful entrepreneur to research and present on to the class.
• Encourage students to be creative and include visual elements (e.g. Power Point, poster, model) in their presentations.

Closure

• Review the key points of the lesson and reinforce the importance of entrepreneurship in the business world.
• Ask students to share their takeaways from the independent practice activity.

Assessment:

• Observe students during the group work and independent practice activities to assess their understanding of the concept of entrepreneurship and their ability to conduct a research and present on a successful entrepreneur.
• Collect and review the presentations to assess student understanding.
