Topic: Labeling the contients and oceans on a world map, and labeling the united states and capitals

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to label the contients and oceans on a world map.
• Students will be able to label the united states and capitals on a United States map.

Materials

• World map
• United States map
• Markers or pens

Warm-up

• Have the students take out their notebooks and draw a small world map. Have them label the contients and oceans.
• Then, have them turn to a fresh page in their notebooks and draw a United States map. Have them label the united states and capitals.

Direct Instruction

• Begin by projecting the world map onto the board.
• Introduce the contients and oceans and have the students repeat after you.
• Then, project the United States map onto the board and introduce the states and capitals. Again, have the students repeat after you.
• Have the students take out their notebooks and compare their world and United States maps with the projected maps on the board. Make sure they are able to identify and label the contients and oceans and the united states and captials.

Guided Practice

• Have the students work in pairs and compare their world and United States maps.
• Have them identify and label the contients and oceans and the united states and captials.
• Have them share their work with the class and have the class verify their work.

Independent Practice

• Have the students create a map of their own country using a blank world map.
• Have them label the contients and oceans and the captials.
• Have them share their work with the class and have the class verify their work.

Closure

• Review the main points of the lesson:
