Topic: Seasons in the Philippines

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify the seasons in the Philippines and explain the relationship between the seasons and the position of the Sun in the sky.
• Students will be able to describe the characteristics of each season in the Philippines.

Materials

• Pictures or videos of the seasons in the Philippines (spring, summer, fall, winter)
• Handouts with information about the seasons in the Philippines

Warm-up

• Have students draw a picture of the Sun in the sky at different times of the day and different times of the year.
• Ask students to share their drawings and explain the relationship between the Sun and the seasons.

Direct Instruction

• Show students a globe or a map of the Philippines.
• Ask students to identify the different seasons in the Philippines and the corresponding position of the Sun in the sky.
• Explain that the position of the Sun in the sky depends on the latitude of the place and the angle of the Earth's axis relative to the Sun.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to find the latitude and the angle of the Earth's axis of different places in the Philippines.
• Ask them to record their findings on a piece of paper.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose one of the places they found in the guided practice and research how the seasons are different in that place compared to their hometown.
• Ask them to create a presentation or a report to share their findings with the class.

Closure

• Review the seasons and their characteristics. Ask students to give examples of activities they enjoy doing during each season.
• Encourage them to take advantage of the different seasons in the Philippines by going camping, hiking, swimming, etc.
• Ask students to share their plans for the upcoming summer break.

Assessment

• Observe students during the class discussion and demonstration to assess their understanding of the concept of seasons and their characteristics.
• Evaluate students' reports on the four seasons in their chosen location using the criteria listed above.
