Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

Warm-up

  • "Let's play a game! I will show you a picture of a different type of matter, and you need to tell me whether it is a solid, liquid, or gas. Ready? Ok, here we go!"

Direct Instruction

  • "Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. There are three types of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Each type of matter has its own unique properties. Let's take a closer look at each type of matter and see what makes them different."
  • Discuss the properties of solids, liquids, and gases using the interactive whiteboard or demonstration materials.
  • Ask the students to give examples of each type of matter.
  • Have the students complete the handout while you are discussing the properties of matter.
