  • Students will be able to compare and contrast animal and plant cells.

Materials

  • Pictures or diagrams of animal and plant cells
  • Handouts with definitions of cell components and functions
  • Construction paper, scissors, and glue
  • Markers or colored pencils

Warm-up

  • Have students do a "Find Someone Who" game with the following questions: -"Find someone who knows what the cell is. -"Find someone who can name at least three cell components. -"Find someone who can explain the function of the cell membrane. -"Find someone who can draw a diagram of a animal cell. -"Find someone who can draw a diagram of a plant cell.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the topic of cells and their importance in living things.

  • Discuss the process of cell division and how it helps living things grow and reproduce.
  • Discuss the differences between animal and plant cells, including their structure and functions.

Guided Practice

  • Have the students work in pairs to complete a worksheet on the different parts of the cell and their functions.
  • Go over the answers as a class and discuss any questions the students might have.

Independent Practice

  • Have the students complete a project-based activity where they research and create a poster about a specific type of cell.
  • Students should include information about the type of function the cell performs, its structure, and any other interesting facts they find.

Closure

  • Review the main points covered in the lesson.
  • Ask the students to share something they learned about cells with the class.
