Free 7th Grade Chapters 21-25 Lesson Plan

Topic: Vocabulary, questions over the chapter, and predictions on what will happen as the story progresses

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will learn new vocabulary from the chapter.
  • Students will be able to answer questions over the chapter.
  • Students will make predictions on what will happen as the story progresses.

Materials

  • Copies of the text for each student
  • Word cards for each student (see Appendix A for list of words)
  • Progression chart for the chapter (see Appendix B for example)

Warm-Up

  • Begin the lesson by asking students to think about their favorite part of the story so far. Why do they like it?
  • Write their responses on the board.
  • Ask students if they can name any of the characters in the story. Write their answers on the board.
  • Ask students if they can name any of the settings in the story. Write their answers on the board.
  • Ask students to share any predictions they have about what will happen in the story. Write their predictions on the board.

Direct Instruction

  • Review any vocabulary words from the previous chapter that were not already learned.
  • Begin reading the chapter out loud to the class. Stop after each paragraph or two and allow students to paraphrase what was just read.
  • As a class, discuss the characters, settings, and any predictions that were made.
  • Emphasize the importance of making predictions and analyzing the text as we read to understand what will happen in the story.

Guided Practice

  • Assign one or two students to answerLead the class in a discussion over the next section of the chapter and have the designated students answer questions about
  • Afterwards, reread the section to reinforce the vocabulary and concepts discussed.
  • If time allows, have students work in small groups to complete a worksheet or assignment over the chapter.

Independent Practice

  • Have students work on a project-based assignment over the chapter, such as creating a short presentation on a topic from the chapter or writing a short essay.
  • Encourage students to use the vocabulary and concepts learned in the chapter in their project.

Closure

  • Review the main points and vocabulary from the chapter.
  • Ask students to make predictions on what will happen in the next chapter of the story.

Assessment

  • Collect and grade the quizzes and written predictions from the independent practice.
  • Observe students during the class discussion and group work to assess their understanding of the material.
