Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to simplify fractions and decimals.
• Students will be able to add and subtract fractions.

Materials

• Fraction strips or other visual aids for explaining fractions
• Fraction worksheets
• Decimal worksheets
• Fraction strip rulers

Warm-up

• Review the concept of fractions by having students draw a fraction strip and place fractions on it, such as half, quarter, and three quarters.
• Ask students to share their experiences with fractions and discuss how they are used in daily life.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of decimals by explaining that they are another way of representing fractions.
• Demonstrate how to simplify fractions by using the fraction strip.
• Show how to add and subtract fractions with different numerators and denominators.
• Demonstrate how to add and subtract decimals, using the decimal strip.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to complete the worksheets on simplifying, adding and subtracting fractions.
• Go over the solutions as a class and make sure students understand the process.

Independent Practice

• Have students complete the worksheets on adding and subtracting decimals.
• Go over the solutions as a class and make sure students understand the process.

Closure

• Review the main points of the lesson and have students share their completed worksheets.
• Ask students to give examples of fractions and decimals and their simplifications.

Assessment

• Observe students during independent practice to ensure they are able to complete the worksheets accurately.
• Collect and grade the completed worksheets to assess students' understanding of the material.
