Topic: Fairytale endings

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify different types of fairy tale endings and create their own fairy tale with a suitable ending.

Materials

• Examples of different types of fairy tale endings (e.g. happy, sad, unexpected)
• Writing paper and pens/pencils

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have read any fairy tales before.
• Ask them to recall the endings of the fairy tales they have read.
• Discuss the different types of fairy tale endings and their meanings.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of fairy tale endings and their significance in the overall story.
• Discuss the various types of fairy tale endings, such as happy, tragic, and ambiguous.
• Provide examples of each type of ending and discuss their significance in the overall story.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to brainstorm possible endings for their fairy tales.
• Have them share their ideas with the class and discuss the merits of each ending.
• Have students choose a preferred ending and write a paragraph outlining the events that lead up to and follow that ending.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose a fairy tale to write a complete story about, following the steps listed under "Guided Practice".
• Have them write a complete story, including a beginning, middle and end.
• Have them share their stories with the class and discuss the merits of each story.

Closure

• Review the elements of a good ending and how they are used in fairy tales.
• Ask students to share their thoughts on fairy tale endings and discuss what makes them so appealing.

Assessment

• Evaluate student pieces for the use of closure elements and overall effectiveness of the ending.
• Use a grading rubric to assess the quality of their endings and their ability to effectively conclude the story.
