Topic: Verbs

Objectives & Outcomes

• To learn the multiple meanings of verbs get, do, make, have and have got.

Materials

• The verbs get, do, make, have, and have got written on cards or chart paper
• A whiteboard or blackboard and markers

Warm-up

• Ask the students to give examples of verbs. Write their answers on the board.
• Ask the students if they can tell the difference between the verbs get, do, make, have and have got.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the verbs get, do, make, have and have got and their definitions.
• Ask the students to give examples of each verb and write them on the board. Emphasize the multiple meanings of each verb.
• Go over the verb tense chart and explain the different types of verb tenses.

• Using a handout with examples, have the students work in pairs to identify the verb tense and give the correct definition.
