Direct Instruction

  • Review the basic structure of the imperative form (the verb is usually without "to" and is usually second in the sentence).
  • Discuss the differences between imperatives that give instructions (imperative form) and those that make requests (infinitive + "to")
  • Review object pronouns and their placement in the imperative (me, you, him, her, us, them after the verb).
  • Review the structure of prohibitions (don't + verb).
  • Review the structure of requests (please + verb).

Guided Practice

  • Have students work in pairs and give each pair a list of verbs. Have them create imperative sentences using the correct verb form and object pronouns.
  • Review the examples as a class and discuss any mistakes or confusion.

Independent Practice

  • Have students work in pairs again and give each pair a list of objects. Have them create imperative sentences using the correct verb form and object pronouns, telling their partner to put a specific object on or take a specific object off.
  • Encourage students to be creative and use their grammar skills to make their requests interesting and clear.

Closure

  • Ask students to share a few of their sentences with the class and explain their choices.
  • Review the different forms of the verb "to wear" and the objects that can be worn.

Assessment

  • Collect and review the writing assignments to assess understanding of the grammar and ability to use it in writing.
  • Ask students to recount the story they wrote in class and take notes on their understanding of the plot and their ability to communicate in a narrative.
