Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

  • Chart with pictures or descriptions of different types of natural disasters (e.g. hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, etc.)
  • Pencils and paper for each student

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they have ever experienced a natural disaster or know someone who has.
  • Discuss their experiences and what they learned from them.

Direct Instruction

  • Distribute the handouts with definitions and examples of natural disasters.
  • Review the materials as a class, clarifying any misconceptions.
  • Ask students to brainstorm additional natural disasters that are not on the list.
