Topic: Introduction to Language Skills

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students would be able to define language and understand its importance and role in communication.
  • Students would be able to identify verbal and non-verbal language and understand the different functions of each.
  • Students would be able to understand the different language skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening and be able to apply them in real-life situations.

Warm-up

  • Draw a simple picture on the board and ask the students to describe what is happening in the picture using only verbal language, without using any gestures or drawings.

  • Introduce the topic of language and communication, and explain the importance of language in both local and global contexts.
  • Introduce the different types of language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) and explain their importance in daily life.
  • Explain the different levels of linguistic analysis and provide examples for each.
