Topic: Holiday vocabulary pre intermediate level

Objectives & Outcomes

• By the end of this unit, students will be able to use the correct words when talking about holidays.

Materials

• Word cards with vocabulary words related to holidays (e.g. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year's Eve)
• Examples of how to use the words in a sentence

Warm-up

• Ask students to share what holidays they celebrate and which ones they are looking forward to.
• Write the names of the holidays on the board and have students help you add any that were not mentioned.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the new holiday vocabulary words that students will be learning.
• Use flashcards or handouts to introduce the words one at a time.
• Have students repeat the word after you and write it on the board.
• Model how to use the words in a sentence. For example, "This Thanksgiving, we are going to celebrate with my family."
• Ask students to give examples of how they could use the words in a sentence.

Guided Practice

• Divide the students into pairs and give each pair a set of flashcards or handouts with the holiday vocabulary words on them.
• Have the students work together to identify the words and use them in sentences.
• Walk around to assist and check for accuracy.

Independent Practice

• Give each student a sheet of paper with the holiday vocabulary words and have them write a sentence using each word.
• Encourage the students to use one or more of the words in their sentences.

Closure

• Go over the words and their meanings one by one.
• Ask the students to share one sentence that they wrote using each of the holiday vocabulary words.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the activity and take note of their understanding of the holiday vocabulary words and their ability to use them correctly in writing.
• Collect the students' written work and use it to assess their ability to use the holiday vocabulary words in sentences.
