Topic:Introduction to digital technologies

Objectives & Outcomes

• By the end of this activity, students will be able to identify and understand the different types of digital technologies, as well as their basic functions and features.

Materials

• List of common digital technologies (e.g. smartphones, laptops, tablets, smart watches, etc.)
• Handouts with information about the different types of digital technologies
• samples of each type of digital technology (if possible)

Warm-up

• Ask students to raise their hand if they own any type of digital technology.
• Ask students to share their experiences with the class, such as what they use their digital technology for, any features they like or don't like, etc.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of digital technologies and their importance in today's society.
• Discuss the different types of digital technologies and their functions (e.g. smartphones for communication, tablets for entertainment, computers for productivity).
• Show students some basic skills related to using digital technologies (e.g. sending an email, using the internet, creating a document).

Guided Practice

• Show students how to perform a specific skill using a specific digital technology.
• Have students work in pairs and perform the skill together.
• Check for understanding and assist as needed.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose a different skill to perform using a different digital technology.
• Challenge them to work independently to perform the skill without assistance.
• Reconnect with students as needed to assist with the process.

Closure

• Have students share the digital technologies they used and the skills they practiced during the activity.
• Encourage them to reflect on their experience and what they learned about digital technologies.

Assessment

• Observe students during the group work and independent practice to assess their understanding and use of digital technologies.
• Collect and review their digital projects to assess their understanding and ability to apply digital technologies in a real-world context.
