Free 7th Grade Urban Art And Banksy Lesson Plan (Art)

Topic: The purpose of this lesson is to give students an understanding of the features of urban art and the influence of the urban artist Banksy.

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to define urban art and identify its characteristics.
• Students will understand the significance and influence of the artist Banksy and his artwork.
• Students will be able to create their own artwork that reflects the features of urban art.

Materials

• Canvas or paper
• Pencils
• Eraser
• Paints or markers
• Reference images of urban art (optional)

Warm-up

• Display pictures of urban art or videos of Banksy's artwork and have students describe what they notice about the art.
• Ask students to share any previous experiences they have had with urban art or Banksy.
• Have students draw a picture of their own interpretation of urban art and then share with the class.

Direct Instruction

• Review the definition of urban art and explain the characteristics of the genre, such as its use of found objects and its portrayal of social issues.
• Discuss the work of Banksy and his contributions to the urban art movement, including his use of satire and political commentary.
• Show examples of Banksy's artwork and have students identify the social issues and themes being portrayed.
