Warm-up

  • Ask students what they know about the industrial revolution.
  • Write their answers on the whiteboard or chalkboard.
  • Ask students if they know what industries are and what they do.

Direct Instruction

  • Explain that the industrial revolution was a time in the 19th century when new technologies and methods of manufacturing were developed, which led to a huge increase in the production of goods and a tremendous growth in the world's population.
  • Show pictures or videos of the new technologies and methods of manufacturing developed during the industrial revolution, such as steam engines, steel factories, and cotton mills.
  • Explain that the industrial revolution led to a huge increase in the production of goods because these new technologies and methods of manufacturing were much more efficient and cost-effective than the methods used before.
  • Explain that the industrial revolution also led to a tremendous growth in the world's population because the new technologies and methods of manufacturing made goods cheaper and more accessible, which allowed more people to buy them and live better lives.

Guided Practice

  • Have students work in pairs or small groups to research and write a brief summary about one of the new technologies or methods of manufacturing developed during the industrial revolution.
  • Have each group present their summary to the class and discuss the benefits of the technology or method they researched.

Independent Practice
