6th Grade Korfball Lesson Plan

Topic: Korfball

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to define the basic rules and concepts of korfball.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate the proper fundamental movements used in korfball.

Materials

  • Korfball equipment (such as balls and korfsticks)
  • Handouts or worksheets with pictures of proper fundamental movements
  • Space to practice proper fundamental movements (such as a gym or open space)

Warm-up

  • Have students stand in a circle with their knees bent and their hands on their hips.
  • Have the students swing their hands from their hips to their shoulders and back again, making sure to keep their arm straight.
  • Once the students are comfortable with the movement, add a ball to the mix by having them throw the ball to a partner on the right and left side.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce Korfball to the students, explaining that it is a Dutch sport that is similar to basketball, but is played on a smaller court and with a smaller ball.
  • Show the students the equipment, explaining the purpose of each item.
  • Demonstrate basic Korfball movements, including dribbling, passing, and shooting.
  • Go over the rules of the game, making sure to emphasize the importance of teamwork.

Guided Practice

  • Have the students work in pairs to practice the fundamental Korfball movements, with the instructor guiding them and providing feedback.
  • Encourage the students to help each other and be supportive.

Independent Practice

  • Have the students work in small groups to create a short game or drill to practice the fundamental Korfball movements.
  • Encourage the groups to be creative and think about how to best demonstrate the principles of the game.
  • Have the groups present their games or drills to the class.

Closure

  • Review the key points of the lesson, including the main concepts and fundamental movements of Korfball.
