Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will understand the key events and motivations that led to the American Revolution.

Materials

• Timeline of key events in the American Revolution
• Articles on key events and motivations in the American Revolution
• Maps of North America during the American Revolution

Warm-up

• Ask students to brainstorm what they know about the American Revolution. Write their ideas on the board.
• Discuss the ideas as a class and explain any misconceptions.

Direct Instruction

• Use the timeline to review the key events of the American Revolution.
• Have students work in pairs to fill in the timeline with the key events.
• Discuss the significance of each event and the cause-and-effect relationships between them.

Guided Practice

• Divide the class into small groups and ask each group to choose one event from the timeline and explain its significance.
• Have each group present their event and explanation to the class.
• Encourage students to use evidence from the text and examples from their own lives to support their explanation.
