Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

Warm-up

• Begin the lesson by showing a short video or providing a reading aloud of a passage in French that includes a negation.
• Ask students to look for the negation in the video or passage, and to explain how it is used.
• Encourage students to offer different types of negation they have encountered in French and any examples they can provide.

Direct Instruction

• Using the examples provided by the students, provide a brief overview of the different types of negation in French, including "pas," "ne...pas," "jamais," and "ne...jamais."
• Explain the function of negation in French, which is to deny, negate, or refuse something.
• Provide additional examples of negation in French, either from the video or passage or from other sources.

Guided Practice:

• Provide the students with a few more examples of French negation, either from the text or video.
• Have the students work in pairs or small groups to identify the type of negation used in each example and provide a translation.
