Topic: Talking about the restaurant in Arabic

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Arabic students will be able to talk about the restaurant in Arabic

Materials

  • Picture of a restaurant
  • Arabic vocabulary cards with words and phrases related to the restaurant (e.g. restaurant, dining room, kitchen, waiter, waitress, menu, food, drink, bill)
  • Arabic script writing board and markers

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they have ever been to a restaurant before.
  • Ask them to share their experiences at the restaurant with the class.
  • Write down the words and phrases they use on the Arabic script writing board.
  • Review the Arabic words and phrases with the class.

Direct Instruction

  • Explain to the class that there are various types of restaurants, such as fast food restaurants, casual restaurants, and fine dining restaurants.
  • Discuss the different types of food and beverages that are served at restaurants.
  • Show the students pictures of different types of food and beverages and have them identify what they are.
  • Talk about the different types of payment methods that are accepted at restaurants, such as cash, credit cards, and gift cards.
  • Explain to the class the proper etiquette for eating at a restaurant, such as not talking with their mouth full, not using their fingers to eat, and not leaving their napkins on the table.

Guided Practice

  • Have the students work in pairs and provide each pair with a set of pictures of different types of food and beverages.
  • Have the students use the pictures to identify the types of food and beverages and discuss what each one is.
  • Have the students discuss the different types of payment methods that are accepted at restaurants and explain why each one is used.
  • Have the students discuss the proper etiquette for eating at a restaurant and explain why it is important.

  • Have the students work in small groups and create a short skit or role play about a typical restaurant experience.
