Topic: Writing narrative

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to write a descriptive narrative describing a place they have visited on holiday.

Materials

• Writing paper
• Pencils
• Writing prompts (e.g. "The best place I have visited on holiday was ____________ because ____________.")
• Images or screenshots of places visited on holiday

Warm-up

• Ask students to share their favourite holiday memory. Write their answers on the board.
• Ask students to pair up and discuss their favourite holiday memory with their partner. Encourage them to share details and describe the setting.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of a narrative writing. Explain that a narrative is a story that describes a sequence of events.
• Introduce the structure of a narrative writing. Explain that a narrative writing should have a clear introduction, a body containing three or more paragraphs, and a conclusion.
• Discuss the characteristics of a good narrative writing. Emphasize the importance of detail and description in a narrative writing.

Guided Practice

• Provide students with a graphic organizer or writing prompt. The graphic organizer or writing prompt should ask the student to describe a place they have visited on holiday.
• Have students work in pairs or small groups to write a narrative writing about the place they have visited on holiday. Encourage them to use detail and description in their writing.
• Assist students as needed during the writing process.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose another place they have visited on holiday and write a second narrative writing about the -place. Encourage them to use detail and description in their writing.
• Give students time to complete their writing.

Closure

• Have students share their finished narratives with the class.
• Ask students to reflect on the process of writing their narratives and discuss any challenges they -encountered and how they were able to overcome them.

Assessment

• Evaluate students' narratives based on their ability to effectively -organize their thoughts and events into a credible story, their -grammatical accuracy, and their overall expressive language.
