Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to understand the structure and phrases used in a blog entry.

Materials

• Computer with internet access
• Writing materials
• Examples of blog entries (optional)

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have heard of blogs. Ask them to describe what a blog is and what they do.
• Show students a few examples of blog entries and ask them to comment on the structure and phrases used.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of blog entries and explain that they are similar to journal entries, except they are published online for others to read.
• Discuss the structure of a blog entry, including the header, introduction, body, and conclusion. Explain the purpose of each part and give examples of what to include in each.
• Discuss the phrases and words that are commonly used in blog entries, such as "as I said earlier," "on the other hand," and "in conclusion."

Guided Practice

• Give students a few minutes to work on their own to create a draft of a blog entry on a topic of their choice.
• As a class, go over the draft and discuss the structure and phrasing.

Independent Practice

• Students will work on their blog entries individually and create a final draft.
• Encourage students to proofread and edit their work carefully.

Closure

• Have students share their blog entries with the class.
• Encourage students to give feedback and support to their peers.
