Objectives & Outcomes

• By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to write and pronounce basic Arabic words and sentence.

Materials

• Arabic alphabet chart
• Pen and paper for each student

Warm-up

• Ask the students to raise their hand if they already know some Arabic words.
• Write some Arabic words on the board, such as "??????", "???", "?????", and ask the students to pronounce them.
• Ask the students if they know where Arabic comes from and what is the purpose of learning it.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the students to the Arabic alphabet, and write each letter on the board. Explain the phonetic pronunciation of each letter, and give examples of words that start with each letter.
• Ask the students to repeat after you the Arabic alphabet, and have them recite the words that start with each letter.

Guided Practice

• Provide the students with a list of words that start with each letter of the Arabic alphabet, and have them work in pairs to find and write the Arabic word for each word on the list.

Independent Practice

• Have the students work individually or in small groups to create a dictionary of English words that start with each letter of the Arabic alphabet. They can write the English word, and then look up the Arabic word in a dictionary to find the translation.

Closure

• Have the students share their Arabic-English dictionaries with the class. Review some of the words that were included and discuss how knowing the Arabic words can help when reading Arabic text.
• Ask the students to share anything they learned during the lesson.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the class and during their independent practice to see if they are able to accurately and fluently read the Arabic passages.
• Collect the students' Arabic-English dictionaries and review them to assess their understanding of the Arabic words and their ability to use them in sentences.
