Warm-up

  • Ask students what comes to mind when they hear the word 'commitment'.
  • Write their answers on the whiteboard.
  • Ask students what comes to mind when they hear the word 'loyalty'.
  • Write their answers on the whiteboard.
  • Ask students if they can think of any examples of people who are committed or loyal.
  • Write their examples on the whiteboard.

Direct Instruction

  • Explain to students that commitment and loyalty are important qualities to have in life.
  • Discuss the importance of being committed to a task or goal and being loyal to people and organizations we care about.
  • Discuss the consequences of not being committed or loyal, such as not achieving our goals or hurting the people we care about.

Guided Practice:

  • Divide students into pairs or small groups.
  • Give each group a set of scenarios describing situations where a person is considering giving up on a goal or being unfaithful to a loved one.
  • Have students discuss the reasons why the person is considering giving up and the consequences of doing so.
  • Have students come up with ways the person could stay committed to their goal or loyal to their loved one.

Independent Practice:

  • Have students work on a project-based assignment where they have to come up with their own goal or commitment and plan how to stay committed to it.
  • Encourage students to think about the steps they can take to stay committed, and the consequences if they are not.
  • Provide support and assistance as needed.

Closure:

  • Have students share their project-based assignments with the class.
  • Discuss the importance of staying committed and loyal and the consequences if not.

Assessment:

  • Observe students during independent practice to assess their understanding of the concept.
