Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

  • Pictures or videos of people who are different in some way (e.g. people with different skin colors, people who use wheelchairs, people who speak a different language)
  • Handouts with quotes or phrases about the importance of accepting differences
  • Colored pencils or markers

Warm-up

  • Have students close their eyes and think of a time when they felt different or were teased for being different.
  • Have them share their experiences with a partner.
  • Ask them how they felt in that situation and how they would have liked to be treated.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the topic of accepting differences and how important it is to treat others with respect and kindness regardless of their differences.
  • Share examples of differences in appearance, ability, and culture.
