Topic: Good Pet Bad Pet

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify the characteristics of a good pet and a bad pet.
• Students will be able to write a persuasive paragraph about whether a certain animal should be a good pet or a bad pet.

Materials

• Copies of the story Good Pet Bad Pet
• Chart paper and markers
• Scissors
• Construction paper
• Glue
• Markers or colored pencils

Warm-Up

• Have the students pair up and draw a picture of a good pet and a bad pet. Ask the students to describe the characteristics of each animal.
• Then, have the students share their drawings with a partner and discuss the characteristics of a good pet and a bad pet.

Direct Instruction

• Read the story "Good Pet Bad Pet" to the students and discuss the characteristics of a good pet and a bad pet.
• Use the pictures and handouts from the warm-up activity to support the discussion.
• Have the students take notes on the characteristics of a good pet and a bad pet.

Guided Practice

• Divide the students into small groups and have them work on a collage of a good pet and a bad pet using the pictures and pieces of construction paper.
• Have the students use the colored pencils and markers to add details to their collages.

Independent Practice
