Topic: Demonstrate an understanding of the structure and function of human body systems and interactions within and between systems

Objectives & Outcomes

• Identify the major body systems of the human body and describe their basic functions.
• Characterize interactions within and between body systems.

Materials

• Diagrams of the major body systems (e.g., skeletal, muscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory)
• Handouts with basic information about each body system
• Colored pencils or markers

Warm-up

• Show the students a diagram of the major body systems and ask them to identify what each one does.
• As a class, create a list of the body systems and their functions.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the students to the concept of body systems and explain that they are groups of organs that work together to perform a specific function in the body.
• Show the students the diagrams of the major body systems and point out the organs that make up each system.
