Warm-up

• Ask students to raise their hand if they have ever heard of matrix before.
• Ask them to explain what a matrix is using their own words.
• Write their answers on the whiteboard.

Direct Instruction

• Explain that a matrix is a rectangular array of numbers, also called elements, arranged in rows and columns.
• Show an example of a matrix using a whiteboard or a sheet of paper.
• Explain that the rows and columns of a matrix are also called dimensions.
• Define the terms row, column, element, and dimension.
• Ask students to come up with their own examples of matrices. Write their examples on the whiteboard.
