Topic:The new ideas in Europe during the Renaissance

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to explain the new ideas and inventions that emerged during the Renaissance and their impact on society.

Materials

• Pictures or posters of inventions and new ideas (e.g. printing press, telescope, etc.)
• Handouts with information about the new ideas and inventions
• Construction paper, glue, and scissors for each student

Warm-up

• Ask the students what they know about the Renaissance period. Write their answers on the board.##

Direct Instruction

• Explain that the Renaissance period was a time of great cultural and artistic change in Europe. It began in the 14th century, and it lasted until the end of the 17th century.
• Explain that the word "Renaissance" means "rebirth," and that it refers to the renewal of interest in classical ideas and art and the new ideas and ways of thinking that emerged in this period.
• Show the students pictures or images of art and architecture from the Renaissance period. Ask them to describe what they see and what it tells them about the period.

Activity 1: The impact of the Renaissance on art

• Show the students examples of renaissance art, and ask them to discuss and analyze the style and themes. What do they think the artist is trying to convey? How does the art reflect the ideas and values of the Renaissance?
