Objectives & Outcomes

Warm-up

  • Have students take out their phones and set a timer for 5 minutes.

  • At the end of the 5 minutes, ask the students to share their favorite thing that they did on their phone during the 5 minutes.

Explain that screen time can affect sleep by delaying bedtime and interrupting sleep, and can also affect mood by causing anxiety and depression. Explain that screen time can also affect cognitive function by causing brain fog and reducing attention span and concentration.
  • Discuss strategies for managing screen time, such as setting limits and finding alternatives to screen time. Emphasize the importance of establishing a family screen time routine and ensuring that all family members are aware of the screen time rules.

Guided Practice

  • Divide the class into small groups and give each group a worksheet with questions about screen time.
  • Have the groups work together to answer the questions on the worksheet, checking for understanding as they go.
  • After they have finished, have each group share their answers with the class and discuss any differences or similarities in their responses.

Independent Practice

  • Give each student a copy of the worksheet from the guided practice activity and have them complete the questions independently.Project
